Reading Comprehension Context
Directions: Direction: Read the following passage carefully and answer the reading comprehension questions based on it.
After about half a dozen years of training in reading, students studying in the 7th grade are expected to have acquired a number of skills. While reading the works of new authors, they should be able to identify a theme or key concepts of what they read.
Students are also expected to develop the skill of answering the questions and supporting their answers with evidence from the text itself. Coming across unfamiliar vocabulary items, they can also follow the strategies to determine the meaning of such items from context. It is also expected that they should be enabled to identify when the writer is boasting or exaggerating the matters, particularly in reading fictions.
Usually, nonfiction is assumed to contain facts and information - which can include the things such as historical events, biographies, real stories or description of things and the like. Along with the growth of kids' age and development of reading skills, it becomes somehow difficult for them to be ready for beginning to read a nonfiction book. But it is compulsory for anyone to read nonfiction as much as possible.
Such reading materials become interesting when they capture one's attention. However, it is difficult to build up interest towards nonfiction. As part of training in reading a nonfiction book, it is suggested that such a book should be started by reading the 'foreword' section of the book. Doing so will be helpful particularly to understand the topic or the essential message; and doing so will tell the readers more about the central idea of the book. This can also help a lot to remain focused while reading.
